Position Objective
The Commercial Farm/Ranch Consultant provides expert Commercial and Farm Ranch sales support, product analysis and competitive research to field management, agents, line operations and other internal departments. Promotes profitable growth through presentations to the field sales force regarding products, sales strategies and best practices across our operating territory. Cultivates strong ongoing personal relationships with agents and field management serving as a liaison between the field and home office. Services as subject matter expert in developing Commercial and Farm Ranch products, pricing, sales and educational materials.Primary Accountabilities
Proactive Outreach & Relationship Management (20%)
Creates strategies and executes initiatives designed to increase the sales success of the field force and enhance the experience of American Family customers.
Fosters profitable growth by initiating contact with all levels of field management and agents to communicate product sales opportunities, strategies, product enhancements and procedural changes.
Utilizes strong communication skills to develop and facilitate in-person presentations, video conferences and teleconferences with agents and field management to provide sales strategies and technical expertise.
Initiates and maintains positive relationships with the field to promote Commercial Farm Ranch sales.
Meets with our customers and agents, interpreting their point of view, representing their concerns and the home office level and suggesting courses of action to meet their needs.
Partner with other product line departments to develop complementary product offerings, profit initiatives and sales strategies. Collaborates with departments such as PLT, Education, Marketing, and Actuarial in supporting and enhancing Commercial Farm Ranch profitable growth.
Competitor Intelligence (20%)
Collects and maintains competitor information obtained from the field and a variety of industry sources including Underwriting Executive Council.
Provides analysis and evaluation of competitor programs, coverages, and pricing impacts.
Monitors commercial and farm insurance industry trends, advising management of future opportunities and threats.
Provide council to the field and internal departments such as PLT, Product Design, Actuarial, Marketing, and Operations.
Technical Expertise (20%)
Acts as a subject matter expert or project leader for product design or process enhancement projects and the development of agent training, marketing tools and other support material.
Examine and identity new and expanding market opportunities and develop target market strategies to attract these accounts.
Subject matter expert and point of contact for commercial lines and farm/ranch related projects occurring outside of the division.
Research new coverages, programs and pricing alternatives to enhancing our current product offering. Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, statutes, and regulations and how they impact our current offerings and any future product considerations.
Partner with brokerage and alliances to secure programs and coverages that complements our product portfolio.
Assists with training and mentoring of sales support staff.
Quantitative Analysis and Strategic Response (20%)
Examines data from internal and external sources to determine market and industry trends and advises management on possible strategies.
Analyzes competitive trends and develops strategic responses based on cost, benefits, risk and opportunities.
Work with Sales VP and State Directors in conjunction with PLT to analyze past performance, identify opportunities and develop state or product specific growth initiatives.
Analyzes sales and profit results within the Commercial and Farm/Ranch book of business developing recommending modifications or additions to management.
Understands how our products, pricing and strategic plans relate within the framework of our other product lines and agency model.
External Sales Support (20%)
In cooperation with all levels of field management, identifies, develops and implements sales strategies designed to increase the sales success of the field force and enhance the experience of American Family customers.
Promotes sales by initiating contact with field management and agents to communicate product sales opportunities and strategies and product or procedure changes/enhancements.
Routinely visits agent''s offices to provide prospecting, sales skill and product knowledge coaching. Assist agents with reviewing their book of business to identify immediate and potential sales opportunities.
Provides field management and agents with a high level of Commercial Farm Ranch insurance technical expertise, knowledge of emerging trends and sales support via in-person presentations, e-mail, and phone contact. Provides product information, customer planning solutions and sales assistance.
Performs joint sales calls with agents to assist in closing Commercial Farm Ranch sales.
Assists agents in resolving issues related to product underwriting, issuance, and policy placement requiring a high level of technical expertise. This may involve collaboration between processing and underwriting staff or management and agent and field leadership.
Conducts client seminars to educate consumers about Commercial Farm Ranch insurance products and solutions to assist agents in their prospecting and selling efforts.
Work with operations providing coverage, pricing and product solutions for complex and unique accounts.

Demonstrated experience underwriting complex Commercial Farm Ranch products or extensive marketing, sales or sales support experience with Commercial Farm Ranch products.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Commercial Farm Ranch products and industry trends.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of property/casualty insurance product offerings and services as well as applicable laws, statutes, and regulations.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Commercial Farm Ranch underwriting philosophy, guidelines and concepts.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of profitability, growth, and risk concepts.Travel Requirements
This position requires travel up to 50% of the time.
