LEAD MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT

This position is the Lead MSA for Wyandotte, St. Joseph, and Platte City CBOCs and may provide coverage as needed. The Lead MSA initiates and carries out a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the Health Administration Section of the Business Office. Duties include but are not limited to:
During staff shortage, is expected to provide the administrative coverage at any VA EKHCS CBOC and/or clinic. This requires extensive knowledge of the administrative procedures for specific outpatient clinical areas in Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Surgery, Women's Health, inpatient ward clerk duties in a variety of settings including intensive care units, behavioral health, long term care (Community Living Center) (CLC), medicine, surgery, etc. Provides administrative coordination of patient care and appointments and logistical factors associated with direct patient care, inpatient and outpatient, related to the coordination of care between the VA and outside facilities, both VA and Non-VA. The complexity of duties may encompass numerous clerical responsibilities, but not limited to, typing, filing, data entry, scheduling appointments and tests, ensuring transfer of medical records from and to the VA and other facilities, ordering office supplies and necessary forms, scheduling patients' appointments and/or consults, tracking patients' appointment status in the community and maintaining spreadsheets to validate data tracking, making follow-up (post-care) calls on a daily basis, completing electronic forms for cost estimate/payment of community medical care by the VA consistently verifying and updating demographics and insurance information. Assists with training of agency administrative employees. This includes educational sessions to train new and current employees in clerical process in an efficient and effective manner to insure that clerical processes, functions and goals are understood and met. Interprets policies to patients, their families, agency employees and veteran's organizations. Conducts quality assurance reviews, summarizes the results and initiates corrective action to help expedite the processing of appointments, clinician orders, consult requests and other administrative support duties related to inpatient and outpatient care and other special programs. Maintains contact with the supervisor and clerical staff on various units to resolve misunderstanding of policies and procedures. Independently follow-up on team huddles by sharing information and collaborating with the medical team to assure continuity of care. Work Schedule:

Experience:
Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. OR Education:
One year above high school OR Experience/Education Combination:
Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for an entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Preferred
Experience:
One (1) year of experience providing administrative coordination of patient care and medical appointments and logistical factors associated with direct patient care, inpatient and outpatient, related to the coordination of care between the VA and outside facilities. Grade Determinations:
One (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06). References:

Work is primarily sedentary and is performed in an office setting, other physical demands include long periods of sitting (up to 6 hours per day), with some reaching, bending, stretching and carrying light loads of supplies. The work area will likely be shared with other staff assigned similar duties. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. The work area is in a fast-paced, busy environment with multiple interruptions. Work requires walking (approximately 1 hour per day) to the various buildings, wards and clinics at the assigned campus.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
